A Name We Like To Call Ourselves
As a part of the group show Mutual Sensitivities at the Nichols Gallery, this piece seeks think through how a comic narrative might evolve through its expression as an interactive piece.
The comic ‘Float’ hangs on organza fabric as a reflected image in three different places throughout the piece. The mirrored comic seeks to echo repeated time and narratives, through the comic that has become pattern - the story is delineated.
The four colors added to the comic have been used and recreated into fabric structures that float through and haunt the space. They each represent specific actors of the comic, the hooded individual, plants, grasses, and the past.
What is it like to understand a comic or story through color? And manifestations of these identities in color?
Along with the piece divination cards had been drawn on vellum, they explain stories written in the I Ching (a book of ancient Chinese divination) the cards offer an opportunity for new reflection each time one enters the space.
Floating and moving along the breath of air as one walks by this piece hopes to bring aspects of what draws me to the comic, however remove it from a book form.
